Last weekend there was a family reunion here in town for my dad’s side of the family. His siblings and their families (he is one of 11, there are 5 left) have held family reunions ever since I can remember, in various towns in Washington and Oregon. It’s always so good to see everyone, but after four days with lots of people I was more than ready to get out into the woods. My husband and I took a long hike in the Blues. Wildflowers are in bloom, still.

Read:
The Year of Less, by Cait Flanders. I discovered Cait several years ago but hadn’t read her for a couple of years when I saw her book pop up on my library’s website. I checked back in and really enjoyed her blog and her book.
Warlight, by Michael Ondaatje. This had been on my to-read list for a long time. It wasn’t until the last third of the book I felt it really became beautiful.
The Last to See Me, by M. Dressler. Interestingly, a haunting from the ghost’s perspective. I was intrigued by the twist of perspective, but it was just okay.
Watch:
Charité & Charité at War: A German series about a hospital in Berlin, the first taking place in the late 1800s and the second taking place during Word War II.
Alone in Berlin: Parents of a killed German officer quietly distribute cards all over Berlin denouncing Hitler. Emma Thompson and Brendan Gleeson are perfect in their roles, and I always love Daniel Brühl.
Marilyn, and Suite Francaise, both starring Michelle Williams, who is wonderful in both.

Again, Emergence Magazine, this time their podcast interview with Robert MacFarlane.
