forget-me-not friday : mom

5.10.2013

This photo, which managed to survive my parents' house burning down, is a favorite of mine.  An everlasting and cherished memory of childhood for me is my mom reading to us at night.  I remember sitting with her in a rocking chair like this while she read, or one of us in my dad's lap and one in hers, listening to stories until we fell asleep.  When we got a little bit older and each had our own room, she would sit in the hallway on the floor between our rooms and read every night.  Reading a series made bedtime so exciting; we couldn't wait to get in bed and listen to the continuing stories unfold.  We made our way through Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House books, Ralph Moody's Little Britches books, and many, many more.  Thank you, Mom, for giving us the gift of your time and a love of reading and great stories.  Happy Mother's Day!  I love you.  ♥
